Barrett Properties takes on Leadership Dalton-Whitfield

In August 2016, Bob and Barry began the journey through the Dalton – Whitfield Chamber of Commerce’s leadership program, Leadership Dalton Whitfield.  The goal of the program is to nourish the development of Whitfield County’s leadership base while introducing them to the array of community involvement opportunities available.  The following is a recap of what has been happening so far in the curriculum and what is to come over the next few months:

August 2016 – Leadership Retreat

The Leadership retreat at Walnut Hill Farms was a day long intensive team building exercise with a focus on understanding the core of leadership and how positive leadership can affect a community.

September 2016 – Quality of Life Session

In September, the LDW class spent the day at the Creative Arts Guild in Dalton and explored the opportunities associated with the Arts and community foundations such as the Boys and Girls Club and Cross Plains Community Partners.

October 2016 – Medical Services

October brought an opportunity to explore the world class medical services offered to Northwest Georgia through Hamilton Medical Center and the Whitfield County Health Department. The day concluded with a  visit to the Ross Woods Center, where the LDW class explored the services offered to participants and toured the facility.

November 2016 – Education

The November LDW session was held at Dalton Middle School and included Whitfield County and Dalton City Schools representatives, along with Whitfield County’s Christian Heritage School. This session required that every LDW participant interview a local school administrator to better understand the challenges faced, an enriching experience to say the least. Bob was fortunate to interview Cedar Ridge Elementary School principal Cindy Dobbins and Barry had the good luck to interview Tami Dodd from Westside Elementary School (where his children attend).

January 2017 – Local Government

In January of 2017, the LDW group spent the day at Dalton City Hall exploring the issues faced in local government and gaining a better understanding of the services that are offered as a result of property, sales, and local option taxes.

Still to come…

February  – State Government

March  – Judicial System

April – Local Economics

Many thanks to the Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce and Phyllis Stevens for their work on the LDW curriculum!
