The Revitalization of Dalton Has Begun

In spite of recent setbacks, the revitalization of Dalton and its downtown is under way! A combination of public space and private commercial investment are spearheading the drive to excellence, but Dalton still has a long way to go to be competitive with its neighbors.

A few examples of the progress Dalton continues to make:

Haig Mill Lake Project

The Haig Mill Lake Project is a public space on Haig Mill Lake that will include fishing docks, a 5k running and walking trail, outdoor education areas, and multiple play areas. Expected to be completed in late 2017, the Haig Mill Amenities will be popular destinations for the community.

Lee Printing Site

Although in its early stages of development, private donations, a grant from the Lynhurst Foundation, and commitments from the City of Dalton are promising for the redevelopment of the old Lee Printing site at the corner of Hamilton and Gordon in the heart of Downtown. Plans for the site include an outdoor performing arts venue, festival space, and educational kiosks. Expected to break ground in early 2017, the “Spot” as it is often referred, will be a focal point for Dalton.

Private Commercial Investment

In the past few months, Dalton has seen an influx of private commercial investments; small businesses taking big bets on Dalton. Love Empanadas, Trailheads, Jack’s Pawn and Gun, Third Eye Board Shop, and many others have either began or expanded operations in the center of Downtown Dalton.

Is this economic boon a sign of Dalton’s future? At Barrett Properties, we think so, but we also recognize that there are gaps in Dalton’s revitalization; key aspects of a successful downtown that are missing. Stay tuned to see how Barrett Properties will fill those gaps…
